Summary Writing
While best known for our verbatim “as uttered” legal documents we can also produce a wide range of reports and summaries of your hearing or meeting.
Reports
Where each piece of information is as important as the next, reports provide the complete proceedings.
- Full Transcripts retain everything which is said, except for housekeeping comments (eg. 'Coffee is at 10'), but in a form which translates effectively in a written document. Incorrect grammar or vocabulary is altered to provide a well-written, presentable report. 16 - 19 pages per hour of presentation.
- A Revised Report retains all the meaning of what is said, but incorrect grammar or vocabulary is altered and the content is rewritten so that the page yield is reduced by up to 60%. 11 - 12 pages per hour of presentation.
Summaries
Concise and efficient, a summary is an excellent choice for web or email distribution, or where the information must be understood and acted upon quickly.
- A Standard Summary uses rewriting and the selection of primary information over secondary information to achieve its page yield of approximately 6 pages per hour of presentation. 6 pages per hour of meeting.
- In a Brief Summary only the information which goes to the heart of the speaker's message is retained. We will discuss with the client beforehand what issues and themes are most important so that these can be brought out in the document. 4 pages per hour of meeting.
- An Executive Summary is an enhanced outline of the meeting, perhaps closest to what might traditionally be known as 'minutes'. This type of report is normally guided by the interests of the client to include certain information. 2 pages per hour of meeting.
- A Thematic Summary provides a synthesis of the major themes of a series of documents. This document is produced to the length and brief required by the client and is an ideal way of showing the range of themes and conclusions from a series of meetings or documents. A Thematic Summary is also an excellent way to analyse the results of a survey or public consultation.
